AN ANALYSIS ON NAKATA’S SUMMER MEMORIES (AN APPLICATION OF PIERCE’S SEMIOTICS)

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to reveal Pierce’s Theory in describing sign and the meaning found in Saki Nakata’s Summer’s Memories. According to Pierce sign is divided into three parts such as; index, symbols, and icons. The findings suggest that icons are mostly traced at school and home setting of the novel, the index are dominantly viewed in the life style of each characters while the symbols are detected in the issues of culture, feminism, childlike, friendship, and regret.
